LONDON, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) — World champions Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier dominated the rink on Saturday as the American duo clinched the pairs’ title at the MK John Wilson Trophy in Sheffield.
Knierim and Frazier who teamed up in the spring of 2020 and clinched the world title in Paris this March, collected 75.88 points on Friday to lead the short program. Then they continued their dominance in Saturday’s free skating, setting a season best with 129.97 points and winning the gold with 205.85 points in total.
With two victories on the circuit, Knierim and Frazier have qualified for the Grand Prix Final next month in Torino.
Italian Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii took the silver in 184.19 points while German Letizia Roscher/Luis Schuster finished third in 167.37 points.
In the men’s free skating, Canada’s Roman Sadovsky, who led the short program on Friday, had to settle for a sixth finish.
Italian Daniel Grassl took the gold in 264.35 points, followed by Deniss Vasiljevs of Latvia in 254.56 points.
Japanese teenager Shun Sato was third in 249.03 points.
Reigning Four Continents Champion Mai Mihara of Japan led the women’s short program while Italy’s Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri took the top position of ice dance after the rhythm dance.
