As the primary BOJ governor from academia in postwar Japan, the 71-year-old is tasked with sustaining the momentum towards attaining the nation’s 2 p.c inflation goal via financial coverage, and charting a path towards an eventual exit as 10 years of huge easing beneath his predecessor to make sure each wage development and steady inflation has uncovered its detrimental facet.
