In a lawsuit over a Buddhist statue stolen from a temple in Nagasaki Prefecture in 2012 and later present in South Korea, the Korean temple is claiming possession of the statue and demanding its extradition, claiming that it was “looted by Japanese pirates throughout the medieval interval.” South Korea’s Supreme Court rejected the plaintiff’s lawsuit and issued a ruling recognizing that the possession of the Buddhist statue rests with a temple in Nagasaki Prefecture.
The verdict shall be finalized after a seven-and-a-half 12 months trial.
