Wakayama, Feb 04 (News On Japan) –
With February third marking Setsubun in Japan, a ceremonial ceremony on the Kumano Nachi Taisha in Wakayama Prefecture, a World Heritage Site, was carried out, involving sporting demon masks, scattering beans whereas putting bamboo sticks on the stone steps to drive out unhealthy luck.
This Setsubun ceremony, often known as “Oni Yarai,” has been a long-standing custom at Kumano Nachi Grand Shrine. Additionally, throughout the shrine grounds, Shinto monks shot purifying arrows at a goal marked with the phrase “demon,” measuring 1.5 meters in diameter, symbolically vanquishing the demon.
Following these rituals, a bean-throwing ceremony was held, with guests eagerly gathering the beans to obtain blessings and success.
