While Kyoto Station is bustling and lots of vacationers look ahead to a taxi, a scarcity of drivers has left greater than 50 automobiles within the taxi firm’s storage, TV Asahi studies.
At the Miyako Taxi Dispatch Center, a taxi firm in Kyoto, the cellphone is ringing always requesting rides. However, the operator has to inform passengers, “Right now, there are not any accessible taxis. So please wait.”
More than 50 automobiles are left idle day-after-day, and out of the roughly 2,000 automobile dispatch requests per day, 400, or one-fifth, can’t be dealt with.
Miyako Taxi President Motoyoshi Tsutsui mentioned, “It’s due to the labor shortage. We have the cars, but not enough drivers. If we could hire people, everything would work.” The variety of drivers, which was once about 400, has decreased to about 300.
