A joint patrol was performed in Okinawa City by native police and the U.S. army over the weekend, the second such operation following an identical patrol in April, as a part of efforts to forestall additional incidents after a U.S. serviceman was arrested in reference to the assault of a girl.
Roughly 50 personnel took half within the patrol, together with members of the U.S. army police, native cops, and Okinawa City officers. The workforce spent two hours from midnight strolling the Gate Street space, a busy leisure district lined with eating places and bars.
“Although it’s already 1:30 a.m., the streets remain crowded and lively,” reported journalist Yamauchi Shunki from the scene.
During the patrol, a visibly intoxicated U.S. soldier—believed to be lined by the Liberty coverage—was transported by ambulance, underscoring the persevering with points round alcohol-related incidents involving army personnel.
While Japanese and American officers highlighted the patrol’s position in elevating consciousness of public security, some observers questioned its effectiveness in stopping additional misconduct.
