In response to a harassment scandal, a former city councilwoman was elected in a landmark victory in Ginan, Gifu Prefecture, on April 14, marking the primary time a lady will lead the city.
The election got here after the earlier mayor resigned because of allegations of harassment towards employees members.
Yuki Goto, a 47-year-old impartial and former councilwoman, gained the mayoral race. As a mom of two, Goto campaigned on a platform of female-focused insurance policies, securing 4,652 votes and defeating fellow newcomer and former municipal worker, Shuichi Asakura, by a margin of 599 votes.
This marks the primary time Ginan could have a feminine mayor.
Yuki Goto expressed her gratitude and imaginative and prescient following her victory: “I believe this achievement would have been impossible alone. I look forward to building a town brimming with smiles, dreams, and hope, together with all of you.”
