BELGRADE, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — Japan received the ladies’s group title with 190 factors on the Belgrade Wrestling World Championships, with the United States second on 157, and China ending third with 84 factors.
On Thursday, Tsugumi Sakurai of Japan defeated Helen Louise Maroulis of the United States 3-0 to win gold within the 57kg class, whereas Moldova’s Anastasia Nichita defeated Grace Jacob Bullen from Norway 4-1 within the remaining of the 59kg class.
Sakurai’s win was Japan’s fifth gold of the event, after Yui Susaki had defeated Otgonjargal Dolgorjav of Mongolia 4-0 for the 50kg gold, Miwa Morikawa received the 65kg class towards China’s Jia Long (2-0), Mayu Shidochi Mukaida smashed Ukraine’s Oleksandra Khomenets 10-0 within the 55kg remaining, and Nonoka Ozaki outperformed American Kayla Miracle 10-0 for the 62kg gold.
In different classes, Tamyra Mariama Stock Mensah of the United States defeated Ami Ishii of Japan 6-0 to raise the 68kg gold, and her compatriot Amit Elor defeated Zhamila Bakbergenova of Kazakhstan 10-0 to bag the 72kg title.
The World Wrestling Championships happen from September 10 to 18 in Serbia’s capital, with over 800 athletes competing in Greco-Roman, males’s Freestyle and ladies’s Freestyle.
