HKSAR commemorates 78th anniversary of victory in opposition to Japanese aggression

HONG KONG, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) — The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) authorities on Sunday held an official ceremony to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese individuals’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

The ceremony, held on the Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden, included taking part in and singing China’s nationwide anthem, elevating the nationwide flag and the flag of the HKSAR, silence in mourning, and bowing in tribute.

Attendees of the occasion included Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Leung Chun-ying, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee, representatives of central individuals’s authorities organizations in Hong Kong, former chief executives of the HKSAR, judicial officers of the HKSAR, members of the HKSAR Executive Council and the HKSAR Legislative Council, representatives from warfare veteran teams, representatives of Hong Kong deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC), representatives of Hong Kong members of the National Committee of the CPPCC, and representatives from uniformed teams and youth organizations.

Lee stated on the social media that 78 years in the past, the Chinese individuals received an awesome victory within the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. He paid tribute to all of the troopers, generals and individuals who participated within the warfare, and deeply mourned the heroes and martyrs sacrificed within the warfare and the victims killed by the aggressors.

Lee stated that the Chinese individuals’s resistance to Japanese aggression and the martyrs and compatriots who died will at all times be remembered.

In February 2014, the Standing Committee of NPC designated Sept. 3 because the Victory Day of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

In August 2014, the HKSAR authorities introduced that since that yr, an official ceremony could be held on Sept. 3 yearly to commemorate the victory day.
