Half of Japan governing lawmakers tied to Unification Church

Japan’s governing celebration stated Thursday that an inner survey discovered that just about half of its nationwide lawmakers had ties to the Unification Church, in a widening controversy that emerged after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Abe was shot to loss of life throughout a marketing campaign speech within the western metropolis of Nara in July. The suspect, Tetsuya Yamagami, reportedly advised police he killed Abe due to his obvious hyperlink to the Unification Church. A letter and social media postings attributed to him stated giant donations by his mom to the church bankrupted his household and ruined his life.

That led to revelations of widespread ties between the governing Liberal Democratic Party and the South Korea-based church, which consultants say urges Japanese followers to make giant donations to make amends for his or her ancestral sins, together with Japan’s previous colonialization of the Korean Peninsula.

LDP Secretary General Toshimitsu Motegi stated within the survey, 179 of the 379 celebration parliamentarians reported hyperlinks to the church and associated organizations. The relationships ranged from attending church occasions to accepting donations and receiving election help. However, Motegi denied there have been any ties between the conservative governing celebration as a corporation and the church.
