First snow on Mount Zao, 6 days sooner than common

SENDAI, Oct 23 (News On Japan) –
A chilly air mass above northern Japan has despatched temperatures plummeting, with the “first snow” noticed on Mt. Zao, Miyagi Prefecture on Sunday morning.

The Sendai Meteorological Observatory introduced the primary snow cap on Mount Zao at 6:15 a.m. on Sep 22, which is 6 days sooner than the typical 12 months and 14 days sooner than final 12 months.

The Zao Echo Line, which connects Miyagi and Yamagata, is closed to visitors from the gate close to an altitude of 1,250 meters.
