STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — Several passersby and 5 Sterling Heights law enforcement officials are being hailed as heroes after they have been in a position to rescue a lady from a burning automobile following a crash.
The heroics befell about 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8 after a collision between two automobiles close to 18 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.
When officers arrived, they discovered one of many autos absolutely engulfed in flames. An aged feminine driver was trapped inside with a extreme compound leg fracture and a big bleeding, police stated in a news launch.
The officers and bystanders labored collectively as a group to drag the lady from her burning automobile and carried her to security.
“I can’t walk,” the lady stated she was carried by the group. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Recognizing the severity of her damage and growing blood loss, officers utilized a tourniquet to stabilize her situation till the arrival of the Sterling Heights Fire Department, who continued medical care and transported her to a close-by hospital.
Sterling Heights police stated the actions of the officers have been swift, decisive, and undeniably brave.
“Last night’s response exemplifies the very best of our police officers,” Sterling Heights Police Chief Andy Satterfield stated.
“These officers ran toward a burning vehicle without hesitation because someone’s life depended on it. Their bravery, skill, and teamwork, along with the critical help from bystanders and our fire department partners, made the difference between life and death. We are incredibly proud of them.”
The division stated officers Devon Leonard, John-Mark Branch, Kevin Archer, Andre Basin, and Sgt. Justin King have been to be recommended for his or her heroic actions.
