I went to JIJI with my greatest pal on a Friday evening for some good meals, a deal with on the finish of the week, and for some pretty alcohol – and that’s precisely what I acquired.

Tucked away on Esther Anne Place, simply off Islington’s bustling Upper Street, JIJI presents an informal but refined area, the place vibrant seating and eclectic paintings is intermixed with daring lighting to create a heat and welcoming area.

This Is Local London:

An open kitchen borders the again of the restaurant the place counter eating is on the market so you’ll be able to watch the cooks at work, and the bar is gorgeous.

I had the lychee and cherry blossom martini cocktail to start out the night, and I may in all probability fingers down say this was the perfect cocktail I’ve ever had.

I’m a sucker for candy issues, I like lychee and cherry and I really like cocktail – so this was good.

The fish was recent and it was the proper snack to get us began, together with some Maguro nigiri.

The cocktails didn’t final us very lengthy and so we moved on to some white wine partnered with the aubergine carpaccio and a few thinly sliced seared tuna.

This was in all probability my favorite course because it actually combined the Middle Eastern and Japanese cuisines and actually took me into each the worlds of JIJI.

JIJI is the creation of restaurateur, Janina Wolkow, founding father of multi-award-winning up to date Japanese restaurant Sumosan which now has outposts worldwide.

Her inspiration for JIJI has drawn on influences from the revolutionary capitals of Tel Aviv and Tokyo to create a really distinctive mixture of dishes.

In Tel Aviv, cooks mix uncommon flavours with inventive aptitude favouring uncooked fish dishes, and clear, recent flavours which led Janina to the conclusion {that a} mixture of Japanese dishes alongside Israeli may actually work.

For mains we shared the 48-hour miso marinated salmon, miso marinated black cod, steamed rice and miso tenderstem broccoli.

Miso-mayhem? Yes! Divine? Yes! Do I would like it on a regular basis of the week? Yes!

The meals was superbly offered, tasted scrumptious and was accompanied by a beautiful glass of crimson wine.

Heading up the kitchen is Executive Chef Bubker Belkhit – affectionately generally known as Buba – who has labored with Janina for over 20 years.

Although I really like starter and important course, there’s nothing that may win me over greater than a scrumptious dessert.

And, wow, did JIJI just do that.

We had the rocky highway, which was completely divine, together with a coconut cream panacotta.

We got here away filled with good alcohol, good meals and good feeling – and it was the proper finish to per week and begin of a weekend.
