TOKYO – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Japan Engineer District (USACE JED) participated within the 2026 Technical Forum with the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MOD) on the ministry’s Ichigaya headquarters on Oct. 23, 2026.
The annual discussion board alternates between Camp Zama and the MOD and gives a venue for U.S. and Japanese engineers to collaborate on shared infrastructure and facility-engineered priorities. JED hosted the Ministry of Defense delegation on the Camp Zama Community Club throughout final 12 months’s discussion board.
“This Tech Forum is a pre-eminent example of our partnership,” stated Lt. Col. Simratpal Singh, JED Deputy Commander. “It is a particularly unique and important example of engineers talking to engineers to discuss common challenges, and to share knowledge with one another.”
A spotlight of the discussion board was an open dialogue on the essential significance of passive protection initiatives.
Passive protection places bodily measures in place to scale back the consequences of assault, protect forces, and allow speedy restoration. Instead of partaking an adversary straight, it emphasizes survivability and resilience. These measures embrace dispersing plane and tools, utilizing decoys and concealment, hardening shelters and offering protecting obstacles, and underground amenities.
“By discussing passive defense and shared infrastructure challenges, we are strengthening the resilience of our facilities,” Singh stated. “Continued collaboration will help ensure both organizations are prepared for future operational requirements.”
Following a short presentation, members mentioned how the U.S. navy implements passive delegation on its installations the world over. Delegations later convened in smaller breakout teams to debate mutual challenges, together with the emergency response engineering and operational variations between USACE and Japan protection models.
These exchanges assist synchronize engineering requirements throughout each organizations, reinforcing the bodily infrastructure that protects the U.S. -Japan alliance.
“The collaboration between JED and the MOD is vital to our shared goal of delivering top-quality facilities for the defense of our alliance,” stated Steve Karwan, JED Engineering Division Chief.
The delegations are anticipated to establish alternatives for continued technical coordination and look forward to the following annual Technical Forum, which can be held at Camp Zama.
