Mitsubishi Motors and Highlanders, a startup based from the University of Tokyo, introduced on July 10 that they may collectively develop humanoid “physical AI” robots and transfer towards mass manufacturing as Japan faces rising labor shortages.
The corporations plan to fabricate the robots at Mitsubishi Motors’ Kyoto plant. Designed with a human-like construction, the robots will stand 175 centimeters tall and weigh 75 kilograms.
Mitsubishi stated the robots will first be deployed in its personal factories, the place they may carry out manufacturing duties whereas producing operational information and sensible know-how to assist additional growth and wider deployment.
“We aim to create a new industrial foundation where people and robots work together,” Mitsubishi Motors Chairman Takao Kato stated.
