Japanese Cinema in Cannes Spotlight

May 13 (News On Japan) –
The Cannes Film Festival opened this week with three Japanese movies nominated for the competition’s prime prize, the Palme d’Or, together with ‘Sheep within the Box’ directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, ‘Nagi Notes’ directed by Koji Fukada, and ‘Suddenly Feeling Unwell’ directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi.

It marks the primary time in 25 years that three Japanese movies have been chosen for the competitors part on the Cannes competition, elevating expectations that Japan might declare its first Palme d’Or victory in eight years.
