38-Year-Old Murder Case Reopens

NAGOYA, Oct 23 (News On Japan) –
The Nagoya High Court’s Kanazawa department has granted a retrial in a case from 38 years in the past, the place a person convicted of murdering a junior highschool scholar in Fukui City has maintained his innocence.

This is the second request for a retrial by his protection workforce, who argued that the unique responsible verdict was a miscarriage of justice.

The incident came about in March 1986, when a third-year junior highschool lady was stabbed to loss of life with a knife in a public housing advanced in Fukui City.

Maekawa, who was arrested after the incident, has persistently claimed his innocence. Despite his appeals, the conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court. Maekawa served seven years in jail and, after his launch, filed two retrial requests.

The Nagoya High Court’s Kanazawa department dominated that new proof offered within the case constitutes “clear evidence that an acquittal should be handed down,” resulting in the choice to reopen the trial.
